Japanese calligraphy, or shodo, is a form of artisitc writing of the Japanese language which uses Chinese characters, or kanji.

 

Shodo has a long history going back thousands of years. These days it is practiced by children at school, and by adults as a form of art which can still the mind.

 

Shodo has deep rooted connections with Zen Buddhism, its brush strokes telling a story of the calligrapher's mind at a moment in time.
